Shabnam Abedi, Composer-in-Residence

A highly sought-after soprano and recent addition to The Choir of Trinity Wall Street, Shabnam Abedi received her Master’s Degree from Juilliard in Jazz Studies making her Juilliard’s first South-Asian American jazz voice graduate. A versatile artist with a reputation for high-level music making in a wide variety of genres, Shabnam also studied opera at Mason Gross School of the Arts. Having played and sung Indian Classical Music since young, Shabnam’s first album “Amar Bijon Ghore” was released to wide acclaim in South Asia. Shabnam was recognized by the New York Times for her solo in Trinity’s Handel’s Messiah this year, as well as a soloist in Considering Matthew Shepard production, and sang at the New York premiere of Tyshawn Sorey’s Monochromatic Light at the Park Avenue Armory. She is one of the six women in Voces8 Foundation’s new treble ensemble Lyyra and her debut jazz album Love Shadows is set to release this year. 


Skye Shogren, Guest Conductor

Skye Shogren, a graduate from the University of Connecticut currently directs all music activities at Putnam High School where he developed an award-winning treble a cappella program. This group has now performed all over Connecticut including local events, WINY radio station, ACDA small ensemble festivals, CMEA All-State, and received platinum in this year’s Great East Festival. Entering his fourth year of teaching, he has consistently directed and sung in chamber vocal ensembles, concert choirs, church, barbershop quartets, and contemporary a cappella. Based in Eastern Connecticut, Skye has been seen making music all over the globe in a variety of venues. Most notable performance experiences include: Carnegie Hall, Sistine Chapel, Notre-Dame de Québec Cathedral, The Jorgensen Center for Performing Arts, The Bradley Playhouse, 2024 CMEA All-State Showcase, and a hotel lobby in Providence, RI. Skye spends his additional time learning, writing and arranging music, and playing soccer.


Emma Bocciarelli, Pianist-Collaborator

Emma Bocciarelli is a 2023 graduate from the University of Connecticut with Bachelor's degrees in Business Management and Piano Performance. She immensely enjoyed her piano studies with Dr. Angelina Gadeliya. Emma was a recipient of the EB Storrs Piano Scholarship and performed in masterclasses with Renana Gutman, Vladimir Valjarevic, Yoshi Akimoto, Yi-heng Yang, and the Takacs Quartet.

In spring of 2023, Emma completed an internship at The Bushnell Performing Arts Center in Hartford, CT, with a focus in marketing and customer relations. Currently, Emma is the Executive Coordinator for the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra in New London, CT. She is the music director at Putnam Congregational Church, assistant director for the Eastern CT Performing Arts Association Community Voices as well as pianist for the Shoreline Chorale, Shoreline East Band, and the Tim Fiorvanti Jazz Orchestra. Emma continues to perform, collaborate and teach while traveling and enjoying time with family, friends and her three dogs.
