Rob Hugh, Composer-in-Residence

Robert I. Hugh received a B.M. Ed. from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. He received his Masters in music education/composition emphasis from the Hartt School, University of Hartford. He completed summer studies at the Kodály Musical Training Institute and the Institute for Choral Music Education. He was selected to participate in the Fulbright-Hayes Group Projects Abroad program. The grant funded a summer in Kenya where he had an opportunity to study music with Kenyan composers. Rob received an Individual Artist Award in composition from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts. He returned to Kenya to continue his study of African choral music. As a songwriter/arranger, Rob has arranged and recorded over 300 original songs composed by children from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Many of these magical songs are online at: https://wolcott.whps.org/specials/wolcottsongs. Rob enjoyed a long, successful career teaching vocal/general elementary music in West Hartford, CT.

In 1993 he was selected as West Hartford's Teacher of the Year and a semi-finalist for the Connecticut Teacher of the Year. Rob has been commissioned to compose for choirs of all ages. His music has been performed throughout the United States, Canada, UK, Australia and Europe. His choral music is published by Boosey & Hawkes, Hal Leonard, Colla Voce and MusicSpoke. New music will be published in 2024/25 in Henry Leck’s Artistry and Excellence Series at Beckenhorst Press. Rob currently supervises student teachers for the Hartt School. Rob was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Connecticut American Choral Directors Association.


Lauren Torres Lambert, Guest Conductor

Lauren Torres Lambert is an early childhood music teacher at the CREC University of Hartford Magnet School in West Hartford, Connecticut.  She was also the director of The Youth Choir of Connecticut Children’s Chorus for students in grades 1-5 for 8 years. Her musical training and teaching include general music, First Steps in Music, choral methods, ukulele, piano, voice, and musical theater.  Mrs. Lambert has written curriculum for her school district, spoken as a panelist at Eastern Region American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) conference, presented for both Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) and Rhode Island ACDA conferences, and serves on the CTACDA Repertoire and Resources Committee as the Children Choir Chairperson.  In 2023 she conducted Connecticut’s Western Regional Middle School Honors Choir and looks forward to conducting the Saratoga All County 5th and 6th Grade Chorus in October. Mrs Lambert is a former soprano and board member of The Hartford Chorale which is the primary symphonic chorus for the greater Hartford area and Harford Symphony Orchestra (HSO).  She has also been a featured soloist for The HSO’s Discovery Concert Series.

Mrs. Lambert received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Hartt School where she still actively collaborates with the Music Education department as an adjunct professor.  Music Education majors participate in a semester-long partnership to observe her teaching methods and work with her students.  Mrs. Lambert also maintains a partnership with the UCONN Neag School of Education by again, working with college students to help them complete clinical observation hours and gain experience in the music classroom.

Mrs. Lambert’s ultimate goal as a music educator is to help create musical people.  She hopes to instill a love and passion for music that is reflected in her student’s performances and musical experiences.  Originally from New Jersey, she now lives in Newington, CT with her husband, Evan and daughter, April. Jake Troy, Pianist-Collaborator

Jake Troy is an esteemed pianist, organist, and choral conductor deeply rooted in the musical tapestry of Connecticut. Passionate about forging meaningful relationships and collaborative artistry, he has partnered with choral and instrumental ensembles across the country, playing for festivals, workshops, and chamber music settings, earning recognition as one of New England’s most prominent artists.

Jake began accompanying choirs at an early age while studying piano under Royden Wilkinson, and has played countless weddings, funerals and religious ceremonies across the region. In addition to his piano and organ work, Jake has taught music, coached piano and voice, and directed numerous choirs at various levels. He served as Director of Choral Activities at Westbrook High School from 2019 - 2022 where he directed multiple choirs and taught courses in piano, voice, history of jazz and rock’n’roll, and guitar, and provided musical direction for the theater program. Jake currently serves as Organist and Choral Accompanist for The United Methodist Church of Gales Ferry, playing for worship services and accompanying multiple ensembles.

Previously, Jake served on staff as Choral Accompanist for Connecticut College, and Director of Music at The First Congregational "Road" Church in Stonington, Connecticut where he directed the choral ensemble and played services for over six years. He holds membership with the American Choral Directors Association and the American Guild of Organists where he has served as Sub-Dean of the New London County Chapter. He was invited to participate with CONCORA during their 2014 Summer Festival as both a baritone and pianist and more recently, Jake was invited to conduct the 2017, 2019 and 2020 New London County AGO Children’s Choir Festivals. He is in demand for regional festivals across the area and has played numerous All-State festivals as a collaborative pianist in Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Jake holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Central Connecticut State University where he studied piano under Dr. Linda Laurent, choral music and conducting under Dr. Pamela Perry, and music education under Dr. N. Carlotta Parr. During his tenure at CCSU, Jake was a member of the highly acclaimed CCSU University Singers. While a member of USingers, the group performed a concert tour of Spain in 2011, gave breakout performances through professional choir partnerships, and recorded several albums.
